In hospitality, fabric does more than complete a design story. It has to perform under pressure.

From guest rooms and lounges to dining spaces and specialty environments, textiles are expected to withstand constant use, support maintenance protocols, and deliver the elevated aesthetic today’s hospitality projects demand. As hotels become more experience-driven, every specification decision carries more weight, and fabric is no exception.

That thinking has shaped Decorator Industries’ new hospitality fabric collection, launching this June.

Rather than beginning with appearance alone, this collection was developed around a central question: how should a textile function in real hospitality environments? The answer led to a process grounded in performance standards, durability testing, cleanability, and fabrication compatibility, ensuring the collection is not only visually compelling but also engineered to support the operational realities of modern hospitality design.

Designed for the Demands of Hospitality

Hospitality interiors demand products that work as beautifully as they look. Across guest rooms and public spaces, materials often need to support decorative intent while also meeting practical requirements such as privacy, light control, durability, and ease of maintenance.

Because of that, specifiers are evaluating more than color, pattern, or texture. They are considering how a product will perform over time, how it will be fabricated, and how well it will support the property's operational realities.

Performance informed this collection from the start. Each fabric was considered through the lens of end use, with attention to durability, cleanability, and fabrication compatibility for hospitality applications. The result is a collection that helps designers specify with greater confidence, balancing beauty with function.

Decorator Industries’ patented ItFits! Foundation Cover is a clear example of that mindset in action—combining a crisp, tailored presentation with practical performance benefits that make it especially relevant for hospitality environments.

Why Durability Still Matters

Durability remains one of the most important performance indicators in hospitality textiles, especially in high-traffic and frequently refreshed spaces. A fabric may look refined in a sample memo, but its long-term value depends on how well it withstands repeated use.

Abrasion ratings played a key role in the development process for this collection. These benchmarks help determine how a textile is likely to perform under friction and wear, making them especially relevant for environments where fabrics are expected to maintain their integrity over time. In hospitality, that durability supports not only product lifespan, but also the guest experience. Worn, faded, or prematurely distressed textiles can quickly diminish the perception of quality within a space.

By evaluating abrasion performance alongside intended application, the collection was shaped to support real-world use, not just showroom appeal.

Cleanability Is Part of Performance

Today’s hospitality environments require materials that can support efficient maintenance without compromising design intent. Cleanability is no longer a secondary consideration. It is a core part of how performance is measured.

For designers, this matters because operational teams need fabrics that can respond well to routine care and the realities of high guest turnover. For brands, it matters because appearance retention directly affects how a space is perceived over time.

As this collection was developed, cleanability considerations were weighed alongside texture, construction, and finish. The goal was to ensure the fabrics would not only contribute to the visual and tactile experience of a space but also align with the practical expectations of hospitality operators. In this way, performance becomes part of the design solution, helping designers bridge aesthetic goals with long-term usability.

Supporting Light Control and Guest Comfort

In guest rooms, especially, textile performance extends beyond durability. Light filtration plays an important role in comfort, privacy, and overall guest experience.

That is why this collection was evaluated with lining pairings and end-use performance in mind. The interaction between the fabric and the lining can significantly influence how a window treatment functions, from soft light diffusion to enhanced room darkening. It also affects the drape, body, and the finished appearance of the treatment itself.

By considering these pairings early in the development process, the collection was designed to offer more than surface-level style. It supports the layered performance needs that hospitality designers manage every day, where ambiance, rest, privacy, and practicality must all work together.

Fabrication Compatibility Matters

Even the strongest textile must be compatible with the way it will be fabricated and installed. Construction methods, seam behavior, stability, and overall workability all influence whether a fabric performs as intended once it moves from sample to finished application.

For hospitality projects, this is especially important. Designers and fabricators need materials that translate smoothly into production while maintaining consistency across a property or brand standard. A beautiful textile that is difficult to fabricate or unreliable in application can create unnecessary challenges during execution.

That is why fabrication compatibility was a key consideration in this collection’s development. Construction methods were evaluated to ensure the textiles would perform well within the realities of fabrication, installation, and long-term use.

This attention to technical detail helps support a smoother path from specification to completion.

Performance and Design Should Work Together

For interior designers, specifying hospitality textiles has become an exercise in balancing aesthetics and functionality.

The fabric needs to support the space's story, but it also needs to work hard behind the scenes. It must contribute to the atmosphere while meeting performance expectations that are increasingly non-negotiable.

That is what makes this upcoming collection so relevant.

It was developed not as a purely decorative offering, but as a high-performance tool for hospitality environments. Every consideration, from abrasion ratings and cleanability to light filtration and fabrication compatibility, reflects a broader commitment to helping designers create spaces that are both elevated and enduring.

As we move closer to this summer’s launch, we are excited to share more about the textiles, textures, and performance-driven thinking behind the collection. Because in hospitality, great design is not only about how a space looks. It is also about how well every element performs
