Decorator Industries Inc. opened its doors in 1953 under the name Drapery Jobbers Inc., a manufacturer/retailer of interior furnishing products sold directly to consumers in western Pennsylvania and Ohio. As the company grew, it reached out to department stores across the nation with made-to-measure drapery services. Along with this larger scale distribution, came the company name change to Decorator Industries Inc. in 1960.
In 1973 the company purchased Haleyville Drapery, a supplier of interior furnishings to the manufactured housing industry, in Haleyville, Ala. This acquisition would further mold the company into the business it is today. With the purchase of Southern Drapery in 1979, marking the expansion to the manufacturing housing industry, and the sale of the original made-to-measure drapery business in 1982, Decorator Industries grounded itself as an authority in the business.
Decorator Industries acquired Liberia Manufacturing Company in 1985, and broadened decorator’s sales to manufactured housing into the Southwest, providing the entry to the hospitality market. Taking the opportunity to purchase a bankrupt competitor in Bloomsburg, Pa. led to the entry into the recreational vehicle industry in 1988.
By 2004, the company opened a production facility in Phoenix, Ariz. to serve customers in the Southwest and West Coast. In 2007, the acquisitions of Superior Drapery, a supplier of window treatments and bed coverings, and Doris Lee Draperies, the primary supplier of window coverings to Clayton Homes (the number one retailer of manufactured and modular housing in the nation), expanded Decorator Industries as a major player in the market.
Currently, Decorator Industries is promoting their own line of cubicle curtains for the healthcare market, which, combined with window and bed covering products, has primed the company as a key supplier to the healthcare market.
